Cyber bullying is a threat to the world of internet

Bullying is an undesirable, forceful conduct that includes genuine or perceived power unevenness. Cyber bullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices such as mobile phones, desktops, among others. Cyber bullying can occur through SMS, social media apps, and even gaming platforms where people can participate in, or see/share content.

Examples of cyber bullying acts includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, abusive or embarrassing content about someone else. It may include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing humiliation. Cyber bullying may cross the line into unlawful /criminal behaviour.

Cyber bullying is no less than other forms of bullying with physical presence of bully. In fact, it could be more harmful as people are not even aware who is bullying them so it becomes difficult to track or complaint about the bully. Since the initial days of internet, cyber bullying has been a threat to privacy and mental peace. While bullying is common among usually among school-going kids, cyber bullying is more common among teenagers and young adults.

Cyber bullying acts makes the victim feel discomfort and hamper their personal space. These acts are not only breaching the privacy of the victim but are also devastating for their mental well-being.

Such acts must be reported to the police and other concerned authorities. Also it must be ensured that the action is been taken.

Cyber Bullying impacting mental health

The victims of cyber bullying tend to Socially isolate themselves, develop feelings of guilt, experience sleep disruption and change in appetite .They may also develop low levels self-esteem leading to absentism from school/ workplace. They get anxious very easily and show poor academic/ work performance. They also encounter Bedwetting episodes irrespective of age. Their immunity becomes low. They may develop Psychosomatic symptoms (stomachaches, headaches, muscle aches, other physiological Complaints with no apparent biological cause) and even signs of depression.
